George Welsby is a writer and co-founder of Surrounded Studios. George's short film 'Before The Party's Over' won the Los Angeles Film Awards for 'Best Drama' and was a semi-finalist for the Cannes Indie Shorts Awards and Venezia Shorts Italy. The film was also selected for the Pitch to Screen Film Festival New York. In 2026, George wrote and produced a series of branded content; the films have amassed over one million combined views.

George specialises in grounded and contemporary stories across film, television, literature, and advertising. Using his voice to explore underrepresented relationship dynamics and political themes. He believes that to be a great writer, you have to love people: for all their flaws, shortcomings, heartbreaks and triumphs.

George has worked in the film industry in the art department on a range of productions. From American films such as Anaconda (2026) and Voltron (TBC), to Australian productions such as Upright (2022) and Deadloch S2 (2026). He is a scholarship graduate of Bond University, where he completed his Bachelor of Film and Television in 2021, winning the Executive Dean’s Award and receiving the First-In-Class Award for screenwriting.
